MPM June 27-July 3

Hi there! Can you believe that it is almost July?! Time is just flying! Summer is in full swing here and we are taking advantage of warm, lazy days, going to the pool, just relaxing, and...doing some cleaning :) Of course, the kids are keeping me on my toes, too. The oldest boy (14) just left for Boy Scout camp and the other three are enjoying time at Grandma's and other endeavors. I'm keeping busy with my purging/cleaning (although I've been a bit busy with some other things lately to really get into it), Needlecraft Guild (we take the summer off, though I am co-chair for the MAQF and I'm on the Program Committee for next year so I have meetings twice a month), stocking up the pantry, and crafting. Even though we are enjoying lazy days, I still make making a menu a priority. Without it I'd be staring into a fridge at 8:30p with hungry kids asking me when dinner is and I wouldn't have a clue! Here's what's cooking this week:

Monday: Marinated pork chops on the grill, corn, skillet potatoes, cucumber salad

Tuesday: Beef bites, creamed spinach, Alfredo noodles, squash patties

Wednesday: Spaghetti with homemade meatballs

Thursday: Carnitas with fixings

Friday: Pizza

Saturday: Going out

Sunday: Oven fried chicken, gravy, mashed potatoes, peas, cucumber salad, pudding parfaits

The Vicky Challenge

I am late to this particular party, mainly because my January (when it started) to June is just crazy. I have enough to do without trying to keep up with my savings. I'm hoping that by next year (where I am determined to start the year off clean and organized so that I do have more time for these "little" things that I wish to participate in) I will be able to jump in in January. You can read more about the Vicky Challenge here and here. On to this week's savings (or last week, if you want to get technical!)

I saved money by:

Making gluten free cupcakes for my daughter's birthday using ingredients on hand: $32!

Ordering her gift through Amazon (I was going to use a gift card to B&N, but my husband ordered it before I could tell him. It was cheaper on Amazon): $15

Making two pocket letters using materials on hand: around $10

I'm sure there are a few other things in there, but this is the jist. Savings to date: $57

Hopefully over the course of the next several months I will be adding quite substantially to that total!

Starting Fresh and MPM (June 20-26)

Hi there!

I know I've been neglecting my poor blog here, but when life gets busy it's often the computer activities that fall by the wayside. There have been so many end of the year school activities going on plus scout activities and birthdays and a slew of other things. Very blessed, just very busy! The children have had their last day of school and are looking forward to their vacation! A week from today, my oldest boy (14) goes off to boy scout camp and in just over a month we'll be making our annual trip to the beach. There are also plans in the works to perhaps go camping at a Jellystone campground and possibly going back to Luray (we went several years ago). All in all it should be a very full summer and I can't wait! Another thing I've neglected is my decluttering project. I am going to be jumping back into that next week (this week is already swamped!), though the areas I had already decluttered have remained cleaned :) Through it all, I've maintained a menu plan. I don't know what would happen if I didn't have my menu plan every week! I think everyone would just be fending for themselves. Not good! Here's the menu for this week:

Monday: Honey Teriyaki Chicken, rice, green beans

Tuesday: Breakfast: scrambled eggs, sausage gravy, chocolate gravy, biscuits, bacon, fruit salad

Wednesday: Pork chop suey, rice, salad

Thursday: Ham steak, scalloped potatoes, pea salad

Friday: Leftovers

Saturday: Date Night

Sunday: Carnitas, rice, corn chips, avocado dip, fruit salad
